Hello everyone,
I am facing some confusion as to what are the accepted types of head in ASME Sec VIII Div 1.
I am suppose to design a vessel with a flat bolted flange for the head(as in the attached image). I was under the impression that there are only 4 types of head accepted under ASME, that is Hemi, Ellipsoidal, Conical and Torris heads.
I know that we can also use dished covers with bolted heads as per appendix 1.
My client is insisting that the flat bolted head (with no flange) is accepted under ASME and I dont agree with this.
I hope someone can help me out with this issue as I have no senior to refer back to.
I know that by right, pressure vessels are supposed to be designed by a professional with a full understanding of the code but at the moment I am in a tight spot for an answer.
I thank you all in advance.
