A client has asked us to help get his roofing product approved as described in RULE 9B-72. The product has been tested and certified. My questions are:
- where do I go to get some idea of the format to use in preparation of an evaluation report to submit to the State of Florida?
- how much is a reasonable charge for this service?

Appreciate any help.

You will have to sign off for the code compliance at any level that the supplier is selling. For instance, if you want HVHZ (High Velocity Hurricane Zone) approval, you'll have to go through Dade County, which will give you reciprocity on the state approval. The format is fairly loose...check some of the other approvals...the whole packages will be online.

You'll have to submit a package that proves compliance. For instance, on roof systems, you'll have to state attachment at corners, perimeters, and field of the roofing and document by pull-out and pull-over for mechanical attachment, adhesion by asphalt or adhesive attachment,or other. You'll have to state the fastener and limit the approval to a class of fasteners (for example, No. 14 with 2" disks at 9 inches on center for the sheet edges and 18 inches in the field of the sheet).

As for cost....don't short the cost...you're signing off on something that will be used multiple times, exposing your liability and license each time.

I would not approach a product approval for less than $5000.

Thanks for the quick reply Ron.
