Force in a Strut Supporting Contiguous Pile Wall (Wallap)

Hi friends,

I am designing a contiguous pile shoring with internal struts for the excavation of 7.5mx7.5m pit using wallap. The strut is getting load from both sides of pit (shoring is installed on both sides). But in Wallap i model just single wall side (2D). After analyze, Wallap gives me strut force. I want to know whether this strut force is from one side (which i modeled) and should double it to consider the effect from the other side?

Also what should be the free length of strut? Either it should be total length of pit or half of pit (which i am modeling)?

Please explain as i am newbie in designing world.

You should not double the load and you should take the free length as half the pit.

As to why you do not double the load, consider equilibrium - equal and opposite forces on each end of the strut.
 
Agree with Retrograde that the force is whatever it is from one side, and the other side resists that force.

But if the strut goes from side to side, the length is the full pit width.
 
Agree with the above two; and you should use pseudo 2D to consider some 3D effects.
