Frame Building Load Developement

Does anyone know where i could obtain design examples on frame building load developements. For example if i have a six-story frame and i am analzing it using a "dummy column" to account for the gravity forces during a dynamic analysis.

Is there examples out there?

Perhaps you could explain the problem a little more clearly. What do you mean by "frame building load developments"? And what do you mean by a "dummy column" to account for gravity forces?

You will have to speak precisely or we will not understand what you are talking about.

Not only that, but what materials are you using - steel or concrete?

Usually a "dummy column" or "dummy member", is one that sees no load, but is there in the analysis because it is present in the structure. Is this the case?

I think he is building a stick model where the stiffnesses between floors are lumped together into a single column and the masses included at the floor nodes and then it is "shaken" to see how it behaves in the model earthquake.

If I'm right, it's what we did back in the seventies before there was the computer power to handle all of the members in the structure.

Do not meant to criticize but scared to see quite a few person ( I assume they are fresh in this field) do not have good grab on common engineering terms to communicate with others effectively, but was assigned tasks that require solid understanding of the basics.

Suggest to talk to theirs seniors/peers at work before posting. Read and review related publications will help too.
