Hi,

We are trying to do transient analysis of Friction Stir Welding process in ANSYS. We want to model a circular moving heat source along the workpiece. Since we are doing 3-D modeling, we used SOLID70 as our element.

We tried to apply heat flux to element faces (top surface) in multiple load steps.
How do we make the shape of the heat flux circular? How do we do the same problem using moving co-ordinate?

Thank You.
Regards.

Hello

You can apply loads to a circular area of nodes using a local cylindrical coordinate system (LOCAL,,1). To do this define the system at the center of the circular area and select the nodes by nsel,s,loc,x,0,radius. Then apply the loads. For simulating moving heat, you will have to redefine the system and the loads in each time step.

Regards,
Alex
