Hi all,
Has anyone heard or read anything about a project whereby rectangular ducts are made in a production process as follows. This is taken from a webpage I found:

Project Description
Up to now the ventilation industry has used separate
flanges to join air ducts. These flanges are either
spot-welded or press-joined to the air duct. The operation
is very time consuming as the 8 sides of the rectangular
duct have to be provided with flanges besides a corner
stiffening system.
With more than 20 years of experience in this business we
have decided to develop a new concept as to production of
rectangular air ducts, i.e. to integrate the flanges
directly into the air duct using computer control during
the production process.
The core business of TWIN SEAM COMPANY A/S is to develop
machines. For the last 20 years we have produced and
developed machines for production of air ducts and
fittings. We are a well known company in this line of
business and have cooperated with the leading duct
producers on a worldwide basis regarding research and
development with the purpose of constantly improving the
production process.
By means of this new production process we will be able to
market a new generation of machines producing air ducts,
with the advantage of a significant cost-savings due to a
30-40% reduction in the time used for this process today.
Furthermore, this new system has better technical data as
to air flow and can be adjusted to EU norms.
At present, a medium-sized producer uses 6-8 people for
the prevailing system but with the new process the staff
can be reduced to only 2-3.
The significant technological improvements are as
follows:
1. A complete fully automatic production process of
air ducts, contrary to the present method where the duct
is produced by various separate automatic and semi-
automatic steps.
2. Automatic data process and data transmission from the
ordering department to the production place at the same
time collecting all necessary data relating to the
production process and management.
We intend to cooperate with a German software company
regarding the development of the computer control and
related software of the production processes and related
information technology. We have good experience with
German software producers and have found a company in
Hamburg which has worked in this line of business for many
years.
Furthermore, we plan to cooperate with a producer within
the ventilation industry willing to test the machinery
system and obtain feedback from end-users in East European
markets.
We have contacts with a major Hungarian producer who would
be suitable for this part of the project. In this market
we have been working for more than 20 years and have
learned that end-users are looking for high-tech products
and therefore we find these countries very suitable for
testing the products.
For the development of a certain profile extruding system
we have found an American company, one of the most
experienced in the whole world, and they have more than 40
years of experience in this field.
