here's the problem,

i am on my way to reorder a G.I Elbow for my cooling water pipe because the old elbow need to be replace due to rusting, ive been search for day for me to find the correct size / dimension...

the old elbow inside diameter is 405mm @ 16" and outside diameter is 426mm near to 17"..the elbow thickness is 8-10mm..

so guys, which size should i order? 16 inch or 18 inch?

please refer here for the size Link

Measure A A to confirm it's 16"

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)

i measure it,426mm from A to A....that is more than 16 inch..so,should i order 18 inch elbow or 16 inch elbow?

What's the OD of your connecting pipe / elbow? Sounds to me like your old elbow isn't a 16.28 elbow. Any idea what the system was designed to? Where are you as older specs may apply depending on your country if the pipe is very old. I didn't understand the inside/ outside description. A quick sketch with your dimensions would help a lot.

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way

I clicked on "Link" (are you saying this is a "butt-welded" fitting, and you are to be cutting it out to replace?)

ok guys,i am from sarawak,malaysia

and this pipe system is for cooling purpose ( steam turbine and boiler system @ power plant)

i want to replace the current elbow that is already have so much leak on it due to long period of working ( cooling tower water return pipe from condenser ),and everyday,we are using water from river nearby and the water TDS is more than 15,000 @ salt water. we also faced a leakage at the main underground pipe that is i will maybe solve it later after i finish changing the rusty elbows and yes,it will be a lot of cuttings and welding.

and i use measuring tape to measure the size,OD and ID...i also use a string method ( string lenght divided to 3.142 ),also use very big DIY compasses to measure it..and the result different not much..

426mm-430mm is more likely is the OD

any better way to measure the size?
