Galvanized pipe support inside water tank

Is it Ok to use hot dip galvanized steel supports submerged inside water tank if it will be painted with epoxy. I heared that galvanized metal is not recommended to be used inside water.I know Stainless steel is the best, but can we use galvanized supports ? and what is the disadvantages of using it ?

Per the galvanizing industry website, galvanized steel, even without the epoxy coating, should be ok. See this link

If it is compeltely submerged, you shouldn't have a problem. The problem in my opinion would be in the interface air/water

New galvanized does not last as long as it used to when there was lead in the galvanizing. We have found that black pipe sand blasted and coated with apoxy will outlast
galvanized pipe. You could also consider zinc sleeves.

The concern for using zinc in water might be related to the fact that all materials used in water tanks in contact with potable water must meet ANSI/NSF61 certification standards. So far, I haven't found any zinc products that are ANSI/NSF61 listed (but I must admit to limited research in this area only on the NSF Web site). The best way around this is to coat the galvanized components with a compatible paint system that is ANSI/NSF61 certified. To find one, I would start by contacting a major paint company, like Tnemec, Carboline, or Sherwin-Williams.

If this tank isn't for potable water, then zinc without a sealer is an excellent material.

If this for potabable... I suggest stainless! Sooner or later the galvanize will deteriorate. Are the supports welded? If so, the welding process will be the starting point for the degredation (there is no real "re-sealing" compound that lasts longer than the inspection of construction). If the water tank is for non-potable service... then it is do-able... Why galvanized? Is the tank carbon? Carbon would only be used (on potable)if lined. If stainless, then the attachment of galvanized steel to stainlees steel will require using 309 rod (not for potable consumption).
