Gas flushing lidded plastic packages

Heretofore it has not been possible to gas flush a lidded plastic package (Think lunch box / tamper proof style packages with airtight lids or Tupperware) without using a film seal. I'm working on a project (a machine) that can gas flush a lidded plastic package at speed without using a film seal. The value proposition is that could help facilitate a reuse and refill ambition in the context of extended producer responsibility (EPR) and food packaging. It could also address the dual challenges of reducing food waste through extended shelf life of packaged contents, and has potential to reduce plastic packaging waste, by eliminating the need for plastic film seals in such lidded packs.

Right now, its a solution looking for problems. I'd be keen to engage with anyone who knows of a food packaging problem this approach could solve or suitable use case.

That sounds like an innovative approach! Gas flushing without a film seal could be a game-changer for reusable and refillable packaging, especially with the growing push toward sustainability and EPR regulations.

One potential use case that comes to mind is meal prep services and grocery retailers offering fresh-cut produce or deli items. Many of these currently rely on single-use plastic film to maintain freshness. If your system could achieve a reliable gas flush in a reusable container, it could extend shelf life without the waste of film sealing.

Another interesting angle is high-end food packaging—things like artisanal cheeses, ready-to-eat meals, or even bulk dry goods. If your method can preserve freshness while allowing easy resealing, it could be attractive to brands looking to offer premium, eco-friendly packaging solutions.

Have you tested how well your method maintains the modified atmosphere over time? If it performs comparably to traditional film-sealed options, it could be a strong alternative for brands looking to align with sustainability goals.
