Gas Line Installation

New gas service to existing homes as part of a larger project, from the meter bar we bored an over-sized hole [allow movement] through the foundation piped through it. The excess clearance was caulked for fire protection and to prevent any water ingress.

Someone brought it to my attention; code is now written that a pipe sleeve is required through penetrations such as this. My question; what type of sleeve is required and is anyone familiar with where this falls under National Fuel Gas Code?

This is from the 2006 International Fuel Gas Code:

404.4 Piping through foundation wall.
Underground piping, where installed below grade through the outer foundation or basement wall of a building, shall be encased in a protective pipe sleeve. The annular space between the gas piping and the sleeve shall be sealed.

In this application, I typically specify cast iron, Schedule 40 galvanized steel or Schedule 40 PVC pipe and the pipe sleeve shall be a minimum two pipe sizes larger than the penetrating pipe.

Thanks for the information and after following-up on the code, it still leaves a gray area - is that for underground piping only or does it apply for above ground install as well?
