Geometry Linking

I have the following ...

Assy1
-- Comp1
-- Comp2

Comp1 contains linked geometry from Comp2

I now perform a file-save-as on Assy1, creating Assy2.

Assy2
-- Comp1
-- Comp2

Assy2 opens fine.

When opening Assy1 however, Assy2 also gets loaded. I'm guessing
because the geometry links were created through a top level assembly.

I need to subsequently create Assy3, Assy4, etc ...

Is there any way I can 'correct' the links ?

Only thing I can think of is to create an intermediate file ...

Assy1
-- Sub-Assy
---- Comp1
---- Comp2

Yes.

This thread has a discussion about linked bodies using a 2 file technique or a third 'dummy' file.
