Google takes action on Climate Change Hoaxsters 26

No more wrongthink

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

The biggest issue I see with this is the people who challenge climate change related claims that are dubious. Many legitimate posts or videos along these lines have included:
1) Polar Bear populations are declining in some areas and increasing in others.... which questions the validity of some of the polar bear population to climate change link some researchers have made.
2) Questioning politicians who link California's wild fires to climate change (rather than poor forest management).
3) Claims about artic sea ice being cherry picked to support climate change claims. Same thing with rising sea levels or declining glacier areas.
4) Challenging claims about how hurricane X or Y being evidence of climate change.
5) Remember when the British Climatic Research Unit got into trouble for poor record keeping and transparency on how they developed their numbers on rising global temperatures. It was a big embarrassment given that their primary research goal was related to record keeping! Being unable to identify how they arrived at their numbers truly made them look bad.
6) Questioning how much of coral reef changes are related to climate change.
7) Whether wind and solar are practical solutions to our energy needs.
8) The environmental impact of wind and solar compared to natural gas or nuclear power.

Thankfully, it sounds like they're not censoring the videos, just demonetizing them. That's not a problem to me.

As long as they don't de-monetize ALL of the videos associated with those channels or producers that are accused of climate change denial-ism. That would be a chilling level of censorship that would be truly problematic (IMO).

This is just another step in the corruption of "science." No dissent allowed, and you must ignore the incentive structure of those doing the research. Academics are whores for funding already.

Glad to see that someone knows the difference.

And, more importantly, it's not G that's driving the action, it's the majority of G's paying customers. G is simply following their road to higher profits.

Albert Einstein said:
“Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods.”

Problem solved - gold star for everyone.
Or if you're google, just gold.

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts."

Interesting train of thought. "G" God, Google, Gold. That can't be a coincidence.

Actually, it's Zuckerberg that is God. He talks down to Senate committees like they are his reports. Which, without resorting to conspiracy theories, might be true.

FB is an acronym for two words that describe MZ perfectly, neither of which are suitable for work.

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts."

Conspiracy alert: Google changed its name to Alphabet. Alphabet organizations is a slang term used by conspiracy theorists to label government information gathering agencies such as NSA, CIA, FBI, IRS, etc...

Oh. Em. Gee.

It's all coming together now.

TE,
I'm actually surprised Apple hasn't already copyrighted every letter of the alphabet, given their patent hoarding mania.
There could come a day when we will required to pay per-use license fees for each letter.

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts."

Don't forget "MB", morally bankrupt. That was perfect.

Mega Bucks?

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts."

More Bull.

It seems to me that this is a good and useful action from Google that will help fight the false idea that global warming does not exist.

At least it closes some purse strings. Unfortunately G did not realize this on their own accord. It took paying advertisers complaints to get their attention, but in a way that's even better. In any case, its a start.
