Hello, I have two doubts that have been bothering me for a while and I can´t seem to find any information about them, the first is about what is done with grade beams when they go through construction joints, and the second is about grade beams that in the direction of the slope of the terrain. In the first case I´d assume that the beams shouldn't have to be separated in the joint because foundations are normally assumed to have no displacements (even though they always have some), unless it's a really long beam and the joint is there to control the elongation of the element. And for the slope I'm not sure, on one hand a typical slope doesn't go over 2% so a beam with a depth of 0.40 m wouldn't be uncovered until it reaches a length of 20 m, which I feel is pretty long, but on special cases you might have steeper slopes, on that case, are very deep beams constructed so that they are embedded all the way or is the solution something entirely different?
These are some of my assumptions but I´m looking for different opinions on the matter to see if they´re at least half right, or completely wrong; and sorry if my question seems a little vague, what I´m asking is more for educational purposes that anything else. Thanks in advance to anybody who can help me clear these doubts up.
