Hi

I'm trying to model the rest position, due to self-weight, of an assembly of interlocking components around a fixed radius. The fixed radius is defined as contact with a rigid surface. I then intend to apply a tension to the system. I've assembled the interlocking components as close to a rest position as possible. I then apply gravity in a standard implicit analysis.

Gravity is applied as a linear ramp and then held to allow the components to settle into position. My expectation is that the length of time the gravity is held for will determine the level of displacement due to gravity. However, my results show that increasing the length of time (step time) that gravity is held for reduces the rate of displacement.

I'd prefer to solve the model via an implicit analysis as I'm not interested in the dynamic response of the system and the current model runs fine. However, the observed displacement isn't sufficient to bring the assembly to a rest position.

Thanks in advance.

Why do you think that you'll get a time dependent result in a static step?

My understanding is that in a static step you wouldn't, unless you have a time dependent variable. I assumed gravity in a standard implicit analysis would work in a similar manner to say creep.

Nope. Gravity is working the same way as other loads in a static step.
