Grinding of a Stepped Shaft 1

I'm designing a 1/2" diameter steel shaft that has a 7/8" diameter portion at one end whose length may need to be ground to +-.0002. I'd like to spec in grinding on both ends of this 7/8" diameter section to get a satisfactory finish and parallelism. Is it possible to have this done? I guess it would require using the side of the grinding wheel to grind the inboard shoulder?

You could grind both sides but you have to leave a large radius when the 7/8" meets the 1/2" diamter. You should consut the gringer for the recommended radius. However, on todays machines and/or a good turner I do not see any problem to get +-.0002" using fine turning in one chuck operation.
