Guidelines for Quality Control /Assurance job seekers

Hi Guys,
I am currently looking for a job in the field of Quality Control/ Assurance but have no local experience. I've got related qualifications e.g Bachelor of Industrial Engineering, Master of Engineering and PhD.D in "TQM and Organizational Performance" and also got more than 6 years overseas experience. The problem which is facing me always is that I always meet the general specified job selection criteria but lack other skills required to fulfill the vacant position! e.g looking for a certain period of work experience done in a particulate area of industry, someone who had that role for a certain period of time and so on.
I really appreciate your advise regrading How i can be get any entry level QC/QA job and be the business loop?

thanks mate for your reply. In fact, my 6-years work experience was gained through holding several roles at three different workplaces:-

fromJuly/2011 to Present: Casual Lecturer, Tutor, and Research assistant at the University of Wollongong.
Duties included, but not limited to, undertaking research in the area of Quality management and organizational performance, and moderate teaching responsibilities.

2007-2011: Ph.D. candidate and Tutor at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Wollongong, Australia

2005-2007: A Quality control coordinator at the Libyan Ministry of Industry (LMI). Working at
LMI evolved a wide range of duties such as monitoring and reporting of product
quality associated with the performance of 35 Libyan manufacturing companies.
Duties also included the following functions:

· Quality control over documentation for Libyan ministry of Industry
· Collaboration with Quality Control Departments in manufacturing companies,
production department at LMI, and the top management of LMI ensuring high
quality standards for completion of documentation
· Develop all required documentations for Libyan Ministry of Industry in addition
to scope
· Assist Quality Managers in manufacturing companies to conduct internal audits
on all internal systems, processes and personnel and implement any changes as
required
· Prepare for and take part in external audits as required
· Ensure compliance against all government requirements
· Periodically review and maintain compliance and progress against quality
objectives.

2003-2005: Postgraduate student at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Wollongong, Australia.

2000 to 2003: Project engineer with the Libyan Industry Ministry. I was mainly responsible for the following functions:

•Planning, scheduling, performing and managing the industrial and management sides of Libyan industrial projects which are affiliated with the Libyan Industry Ministry
• Ensuring the successful completion of those industrial projects from the ground up,
• Deploying effective communication mechanisms with assigned project
clients,
• Providing assistance in preparing industrial project proposals,
• Tracking budget and trends,

1999 to 2000: Planning engineer with Misurata General Roads Company -Libya. Duties included: -

•Evaluating alternatives and selecting the best course of action
• Allocating resources to build or maintain roads.
• Preparing, monitoring, and reporting the key data to top management.
• Arranging logistics plans.
• Conducting risk assessments, presenting potential risks, and suggesting corrective proposals accordingly,
• Coordinating the interactions between the external agencies and company management.

As you see, Quality control related-experience was a part of my previous work experience. This may not be suffice to fulfill the related job selection criteria usually advertised here in Australia, and particularly when i am compared to others in the market. Honestly, i do not even mind to accept on the-job training as this will be an effective method to familiarize myself with Australian industrial environment. I am thankful if you can guide how i can get such chance or any job opportunity here in Australia.

Network, network, network. Make use of the connections made on the lecture circuit (or make them!) and refresh or reconnect with people you know or have worked with previously. They may be able to put you in touch with effective leads. Local chapters of professional societies are another good source. You will get the most benefit from investing your time in these activities vs. something like responding to publicized position announcements.

What industries for QA/QC are you looking? Your experience has been directly linked to government agencies, associated with manufacturing and civil construction. I would think that those are your best bets for employment. Your PhD may be considered by some smaller manufacturing firms contractors as being over qualified.

For starters rewrite your CV focusing on skills and achievements.

As written now it screams "government worker".

The last 3 posts are all good advice. I'd suggest that you also tailor your resumes to the types of places your applying. Smaller companies (like mine) are going to be skeptical about both the government and academic slant. Concentrate on practical solutions, problem solving on a budget and getting along with other departments.
