HAS ANYONE HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH EPR VALVES ON A/C SYSTEMS

I HAVE COME ACROSS RESIDENTIAL A/C SYSTEMS THAT ARE OVER SIZED AND /OR HAVE UNDERSIZED DUCTWORK THAT IS SOMEWHAT UNCHANGEABLE I'VE OFTEN WONDERED IF AN EVAPERATOR PRESSURE REGULATER WOULD PREVENT THE EVAP COIL FROM ICEING WHEN USED W/ A TXV HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS? ANYONE?

This is a very repeated and always the same old story!


Keeping the TXV, but changing its orifice to a smaller diameter or change the valve to a smaller size. Then check carefully the compressor response, measuring all the electrical parameters, as well the thermodynamics ones. Also you have to decrease the air flow rate, changing the fan operating conditions, according, by the regular/known means.

Thank you for your good advice,however the question remains . COuld A evaporater pressure regulater be used on a residential a/c system when a txv is incorporated to prevent evaporater freeze up when ductwork is undersized or the system is ran in lower temps than it was designed for? I dont see why it couldnt . Please advise. Thank you shane.
 
I've seen EPRs used in combination with TXVs in commercial refrigeration. This arrangement is used when several evaporators exit to a common manifold. Each evaporator can then be controlled to a different pressure by the EPR, but the TXV must be properly adjusted.

One disadvantage to the configuration you'e suggested is that the compressor will be pulling down needlessly to a lower pressure.
 
This is true it could end up running at A lower pressure than the compressor was designed for .Thank you very much for your help.

SuperService Useing epr will keep from freezing--but compressor will still try to do the same work --and pressure drop will increase compression ratios,discharge temp--compreesor temp. use of adr-2 or equivalent (Valve opens hot gas to suction line)to maintain proper back pressure.To keep from overheating compresser use sporlan valve to inject liquid into suction to keep compressor cool.this is a form of capacity reduction for compressors that are to large or low air flow.the to valves should oppose each other and enter into common suction.tis set available from sporlan or copeland.have 48000 btu cond unit,r22,20 deg sat suct. running 3 cabinets 16200-11100-5700 btu. that's 33000 dwn to 5700 with 140' line set. been running cool with no problems 11/2 yrs.
