Respected Users, Im designing a composite pipe and applying internal pressure to calculate the maximum pressure that the lamina can withstand. However, Im having trouble with producing results of the hashin damage and failure at each ply. Could someone give some tips to help and guide us?

It would he good to know which software you are using and what issues you encountered.

Oh sorry, Im using Abaqus 2023, and the issue is i need to check the maximum pressure that the pipe can withstand and to check if the plys fail and at what step, and i cant find those values.

Find out what software was used by Stockton Rush.
Don't use it.

It's the LAW!

do you have the strength of your laminate material ?

you've modelled the different orientations of the various laminar ?

Why do you want to use the Hashin failure criteria? Do you have all of the necessary input material properties for your material to use with the failure criteria?

If there is internal pressure, you can calculate very simply by hand the hoop stress in the pipe wall, and given the laminate modulus, can calculate the hoop strain. Then you can compare that strain to values for your particular material system. All without using a FEM.

In Abaqus, you get 4 output variables for Hashin damage initiation criterion: HSNFTCRT, HSNFCCRT, HSNMTCRT and HSNMCCRT. They represent the values of the criterion for fiber and matrix in tension and compression. Check the equations in the documentation chapter "Damage Initiation for Fiber-Reinforced Composites".

waross - the OP posted about internal pressure - relatively simple; the Stockton Rush fiasco was external pressure - much much more difficult.

Hey guys, it worked on abaqus I got the maximum pressure but I have one more issue. So you know i need the pressure when hashin damage is equal to 1, usually its on a scale of 0.14, is that the maximum pressure or should I manually apply an equation to calculate the maximum pressure taking into mind the scale factor and increment size of the step?
