Dear members,

I am trying to understand the process adopted by HTRI to calculate the heat loads in their software (mainly Xist module). I tried many literature searches, but I wasn’t successful in getting the correct equations used by HTRI.

Can anybody provide the heat load and heat transfer equations of HTRI?

Why don't you ask them directly, since you are using their software?

IRstuff,

I am not using their software. I sometimes have to deal with heat exchanger suppliers (for compressed air and oil coolers) who use HTRI software and I get the cooler data as an output of HTRI. Most often the heat loads change considerably with small changes in the input parameters (temp., fluid flow rate, etc…) and this results in varying cooler configurations. The heat loads vary from 5-20% even for minor changes. I believe it’s an iterative method, but I do not have any conclusive data to satisfy myself over this.

Though I do not doubt their calculations, I think it’s better to understand their calculation methodology for better prospects.

Either way, if they wrote the software, they'd know the equations best, wouldn't they?

rakuday,

Perhaps one of the heat exchanger suppliers will copy out the HTRI formulas from their book. I once was able to convince a utility to do that for me; to let me copy a single formula from a single page of a vendor manual.

Not sure. They might have a support manual, even if it is on-line now.
