Hello all,

I am evaluating some old buildings with steel joists as the roof. I have not been able to find the appropriate manual to locate the designation or properties. The webs are bars/hollow circular section. The chords are kinda hat-shaped. Please see the attached image for cross-section.

Any help or links would be highly appreciated.

Thanks all

Is that the actual shape on site?

If you can get actual dimensions and pictures you'll get more help here. And you'll be able to submit the info to SJI joist identification portal and they are pretty good at giving you an idea of what you're dealing with.

Often in the days of hand drafting, there were only a couple templates each office had for joists. So just because it was drawn a certain way, doesn't mean it what provided that way on site.

Yes, that is the actual shape on site. I have been to the site and I do have dimensions. I was thinking if someone could provide old manual I could use sectional properties for calculations.

Not sure, but sketch looks similar to a Butler Mfg "Truss Purlin". They are now BlueScope I think. They had a Landmark line of buildings. Does your building look like a PEMB other than the lack of Z-purlins on the roof? I think the Landmark series got revised in early 2000. Could be new or old version but looks similar.
