Hi I'm a student who's been tasked with designing a helical staircase for our group project and I have no clue how to do it.

The staircase goes from the ground to the 2nd floor with each floor being 4m in height.

Any tips on good guides or anything that would help design this?

Also, how do the loads work? does it get support from the intermediate(1st floor) landing or just the top and bottom of the staircase?

If you follow this thread you will find lots of links and information / tools to use.
Helictical stairs are quite interesting but basically they all just use the other stairs as supports or cantilever out of the middle, but then you need a thick step.

There's lots of good info out there - just search well.
