I need to put a hinged door on a large section VIII vessel.
I don't recall any rules on hinged doors in the code.
Additionally I can only find vendors who make doors for bulkheads in ships. I have seen these dished head doors :

But I am looking for something that is obround.

Can anyone help?

As long as you follow the design rules of section VIII you should be fine in using a hinged door. Is the door on the pressure side or the atmospheric pressure side and is the hinge just for handling the weight of the door during removal?

lacking any details on the design requirements I suggest that you look for companies like WSF Industries by doing a search on "autoclave doors".

I will add a little word of advice. Try to design your vessel around a standard door and stay away from specials unless you have deep pockets.

The Process Industry Practices (PIP) document VEFV1100 "Vessel/S&T Heat Exchanger Standard Details" has fabrication details for hinged manways for vessels. Unfortunately, it only has round manways but it might be useful. This can be purchased from (but it is expensive).
