How do I reset visualization preferences?

Hi,
I was attempting to fine tune my visualization preferences in NX6 via the 'preferences->visualization' and 'preferences->visualization performance' menus. After making a couple of clicks based on the 'evaluate graphics performance' wizard my 'shaded with edges' render view no longer works correctly (really strange multi facets) and no matter what I do it will not go back to 'normal'. The 'static wireframe' view works fine but I would like to be able to use my normal 'shaded with edges' view... Any suggestions how I can fix this?

many thanks, James

* just before posting this I added an extra decimal place in the 'faceting->shaded views->tolerance->cutomise->face tolerance' setting and this fixed the problem - any suggestions what happened?

Changing the tolerance will force a regeneration of the facets used to create by display card to render the the shaded image.

As for getting the settings to remain in effect you have to realize that there are two classes of Visualization Setttings, those which effect the 'Session' (these usually stay 'set' until you change them in the future) and those which are are 'Part' specific (these only effect the currently displayed part and are saved with the part but will have no effect on any other part file). This holds true for both the normal Visualization perferences as well as the Visualization Performance preferences. So when you make changes carefully review the name on the sections of the dialog where the settings are being made. You will see either the term 'Part' or 'Session' and it will be key that you're aware of these differences as you make your changes with respect to what settings will be saved and where.

Hi John,
many thanks for your excellent reply, that certainly makes session and part concepts clear. I am still having trouble with my views, shaded views don't look right and if I go into drafting dimensions do not display correctly. I have opened a number of different drawings and the result is the same. What would you say was the best way to get back to 'normal' ?

many thanks,
James

It sounds like a display driver issue. Make sure that you're running the latest certified graphics driver.

Many thanks for the suggestions. One new graphics card later everything is working great!

cheers,
James
