Hey Ron: How'd ya like to live where it never gets above 15 degrees F. for weeks on end? Then to top it off several times a day, ya gotta go out in the cold with a dog that has to have booties on her little feet only to find after all that work getting her ready, with a coat and all, she does a quick thing and scoots back inside. Then along comes one or two inch of snow, too little for a snow blower so it is done by hand, mine and a widow next door. And to top it off that seems like a daily thing. Of course this old guy needs the exercise, so it ann't so bad after all.

Just how happy is a bird with a french fry?
Here in Colorado, a little more winter is needed. Water/snow is low, requiring a very wet spring to get ready for the year ahead. Watching the national weather maps, we seem to be just under/south of the precip patterns.

Hopefully our winter is over here in Florida. We had a few days in the 20's. Right now it is 80....perfect!

OG....no thanks. Cool pup, though! Used to be a partner in a Canadian Engineering firm headquartered in Toronto. Hated those winter meetings. Didn't have any trouble convincing them to come to my office in Florida though. They hated August here as much as I hated January there!

emmgjld....they love 'em! Seagulls around here flock to the fast food places in hopes of swooping down to grab one.

Generally, the seagulls don't make it to Western Colorado. I think Salt Lake has more attraction.

Waiting for Spring!

. . . you asked. . .

Baby girl got married this weekend! What an event! I'm still amazed at the entire event - all the family, friends and folks from all over the place!

Congrats!
Hope your daughter's spouse is an engineer like mine turned out to be!
And hope your daughter is an engineer too!

Congrats f-d! Nice to have somebody from the family to play music!

Doing great here, all! Just really busy....mostly kids, but life is good. PE, keep us posted on your adventures-great looking vessel. And congratulations, fattdad-must be quite a feeling!

Apologizing - haven't been on for a long long time. Had 2 nice months in Thailand - our condo in Hua Hin and then a week or so in Bangkok - stayed in our daughter's apartment while she went over to her boyfriend's. Then I had a few weeks in South Australia - saw my first kangaroo; sadly it was road kill. Over the first 10 days or so, I saw at least 7 road kills without seeing a real one - then all of a sudden driving into the scrubland I saw one!!! The the next day I saw an emu. I gather they are pretty stupid and have no qualms about attaching a vehicle - so need to be careful. With their long legs, their "butt" is at windshield level . . . don't need to break a windshield. Did slash a tyre on the first day - $225 to replace! YIKES.

Back to Kuala Lumpur now. Getting ready to present a talk on Puah Dam - the dam I oversaw in Terengganu area between 2012 and 2016. Attaching the flyer. My first presentation here. I'll have to cut the slides as there are far too many . . .

Do hope everyone is okay - and if you get to Bangkok - let me know or Nagoya Japan where my son has taken up a great position with the Hilton Hotel.

Cheers to all!

BigH...glad you're back from deserved break! Flyer didn't attach. If you can link, give us a look at your presentation!

Hi all,
I've been pretty much busy with my son last year, he's autistic and developed aggressive behaviours. Unfortunately, he also grew up so much and so large to absolutely overwhelm me (and my wife) physically! My 66 kg against his 160 kg of late. Fortunately found a good rehab structure which is taking care of him, dietary regime, a schedule of activites and so on.

Lately I also developed a renewed interest into health & fitness and longevity, back to a schedule of physical resistance exercise, cold exposure and plant-based dietary regime. It's working well so far. It's supposed to decrease the likelyhood of premature death so increasing lifespan or, better put, healthspan. It's all probabilistic of course but people are developing semi-quantitative models on it. A different world, with overwhelming experimental info, sometimes contradictory results, groups of advocacy and fanaticism. It's hard to discern the truth, I'm using predominantly an intuitive Bayesian model to evaluate and update info and take decisions consequently.

Right now I'm trying and catch up with the backlog, a main job in health and safety, a few cases of bulding projects, a few studies in earthquake geotechnical engineering. Plus lots of home cleaning to do!!

PEinc, I didn't renew the subscription to the site, I removed the signature from my forum profile but maybe it needs time to update.

My thought was to start some blog on earthquake hazards or even on longevity, but a .it domain means that the google search engine will prevent to reach an high number of global views. There are strategies for that as well, but right now I have to catch up with things. If I'm going to do something, I'll do that with the aim to reach a large or very large audience. It constitutes sort of a 'google keywords engineering' discipline.

Am doing okay . . . looks like it might be retirement (hopefully only a semi-retirement) by the end of the year. Plan to stay in Asia. My mentor, age 90 and who studied under Terzaghi, is still working!! Tailings review boards and the like. Has already signed up again for next year!

Wishing everyone well.

Cheers,
