Does anyone know the percentage of bolts to spot check on a structural steel building. Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

cap 4000...I use 10% of the connections, checking each bolt in that particular connection. There are no standards for that, but it's consistent with other test and observation frequency in construction.

Were the bolts tested (preinstallation verification testing) on-site by the erector as per RCSC?

What type of connections are they; Slip critical, snug tight, pretensioned?

Is this an existing structure or are you checking the bolts during erection?

Check the recommendations of the RCSC for arbitration inspection. I believe you can get the RCSC on line.

Specification for Structural Joints Using ASTM A325 or A490 Bolts

It is like the Prego spaghetti sauce commercial - "It's in there."

Sorry I miss understood the question. Percentage of bolts to be field inspected.

Prior to installation, for pretensioned installation, a sample of not less than three assemblies of each type (diameter, length, grade, lot), shall be tested before installation.

During construction...
snug-tight connections - shall be visually inspected to verify that all plies are in firm contact.

pretensioned connections - RCSC requires "routine" observation of the installation method selected.

If it is determined after installation that proper pretensions have not be been obtained, additional procedures are given in the Arbitration section of RCSC.

Additional inspection guidelines can be provided within the contract documents.
