I am involved in a project using hollow precast beam. But I am only familiar with reinforced concrete beam. Can I treat it the same way as concrete beams? How should I deal with those hollow holes which go through all the whole beam length? Can you please also recommend me some good design books on these hollow precast beams?

Thank you very much in advance!

It is a more efficient section. Look at any precast book or even PCI Design Handbook in teh hollow core plank section. Removing concrete in the middle of the section removes a great deal of dead load and that concrete isn't contributing much to your Igross and overall section properties, that is why it is a more efficient section.

It is probably prestressed with 7 or more strands for total section in compression under dead load and a percentage of live load. Topping ties the adjacent planks together for unit action and more flexural capability.
