Hi, Does anyone know how or if it is possible to disable the ctrl+s command for saving. We currenly use NX 3 but the shop floor is using NX 5 for viewing(different license) and we don't want them to be able to save the files they are using. I know that I can disable the ctrl key altogether, but I would still like to use ctrl-c, ctrl-v, etc. I have also brought up the idea of permissions, but the IT guy shot that down! Thanks in advance.

On the workstations that you wish to remove the ctrl+s commands from, go into Tools -> Customize... and select the 'Keyboard...' option at the bottom of the dialog (note that this ability to edit the hoy-keys inside of Customize was first implemented in NX 4) and in the left-hand column of 'Categories:' select the 'File' item and then in the right-hand 'Commands:' column select 'Save' and then go down to the area marked 'Current keys:' and select Ctrl+S. When you do you will see that the 'Remove' button to the right of there becomes active. Just select that and this hot key will be removed from the system. Note however if you're using Roles you must save your role to make sure this stays in effect, however this will only remove this from that role. Also, if you really are trying to stop someone from saving your files you will also need to removed the File -> Save item from the pull-down menus using Customize.

Why not simply restrict your manufacturing personnel to read-only for these files?

Really the appropriate thing to do is to make the files read only. Does your IT guy need help or motivation? If help then find out why and if we can't help there'll be a nearby forum that will. Otherwise I can only advise that you have sound reasons to make a case to management that the motivation issue ought to be dealt with.

Good Luck

Thank you all for your input. We have disabled the save fuctions on all shop floor pc's. (IT) just does not want to set the files as read only. And we can't go to NX5 yet in the cadroom due to the fact GM still uses NX3. Thanks again!!
