How to specify nylon heat stabilization? 1

I have often seen different grades of nylon listed as heat stabilized, but there does not seem to be any performance data to say how effective is the heat stabilization. Is there a standardized way to specify this? I want to add it to one of our company material specs but it doesn't seem adequate to just add the term "heat stabilized" without any criteria.

Thanks, I don't normally double post but didn't get any response in Polymer Engineering so I tried here. I read your link and googled related subjects. While I did find outfits selling test equipment and some studies on polyethylene and polypropylene, I can't find any data on nylons using the Oxidative-induction time test method.

The thing is that there is no simple answer to your question. There are many degradation mechanisms involved and every application has a different sensitivity to material degradation. So there are numerous tests which can be extrapolated in several ways.

This is a manufacturer specific brochure, but page 45 gives some idea of a possible way to quantify a heat ageing specification.
