How to use hanger-type connection table? 2

I have a question about Hanger-Type connections for fasteners loaded in tension on Page 4-89 of AISC Manual 9th Ed. How do you use the Preliminary selection tables tables? It is for Structural Tee or double-angle hangers, and loads in kips per linear in. for trial selection are provided. Now, firstly, the loads are for kips per linear inch. Per linear inch of what? The length of the tee or angles? What are the loads? Are these direct tension loads, or the loads from prying action? Hope someone can help, and please provide examples, as appropriate.

Keep on turning the pages. Example 31 on page 4-92 shows you how to use the table.

The "inch" in "kips per linear inch" refers to the length of the hanger (WT or double angle), in and out of the page for the first three diagrams shown on 4-89.

Thanks for the prompt response. I am aware of the examples in the succeeding pages, but needed a heads up. The reason I am posting this inquiry is that just by looking at the diagram in the preliminary selection table, it is not immediately apparent whether the "Load" in "Loads in kips per linear in. for trial section" refers to T (the direct tension on the tee or angle) or to Q (tension due to prying action). Am I reading this correct? Once again, thank you so much and any help in clarifying would be much appreciated.

It applies to T, the actual tension applied to the connection.

Back to the example on page 4-92, the actual tension T=44 kips, hanger length=9", enter table with 44/9=4.89 kips/in. The text in the example takes 11 kips per bolt, times 2 bolts, divided 4.5" tributary length of hanger per pair of bolts, to get the same value.
