New to website. Seems very interesting.

Looking for ideas for heating and cooling a 300 person college auditorium. New construction so I can basically do anything. Do not want ductwork in space.

New Standard 62 2004 can OA be reduced by utilizing an air cleaner??

Put your ductwork under the floor then. Search UFAD and displacement ventilation.

Whether you go under or over you will need ducting. How you hide it depends on your architect. With 300 people some form of ceiling diffusion is possible. It is not a particularly large Auditorium. Is it flat seating or on platforms? Conceptually it is like a small movie theatre.

Outside air has to do with controlling health, odours and avoiding sick-building syndrome. Will smoking be allowed in the Auditorium? We have used air filters down to micron size for biological contamination control - but that demands high fan pressures. Cutting outside air is not an engineering issue - it should by now be a health issue. Talk to your Environmental Health advisor.

Rdiemer and CinciMace, Pick up the may 2006 issue of ASHRAE JOURNAL there are good articles on auditorium and displacement ventilation.
