As a couple year engineer in the HVAC business, I would like to ask the veterans what books would you recommend that I get to help me better design and understand HVAC systems. I have several ASHRAE books,CRANE piping book, text books, which help in understanding the basics. What books do you guys use daily or a lot? What books help are easy to understand with plenty of diagrams and helpful tips? Thanks

I have a few, most useful are the following (depending on what your depth study is):
- Cameron's Hydraulic Data Book
- Carrier System design manual, Part 3 Piping Design
- Any B&G reference material
- for lighting, The IESNA LIGHTING HANDBOOK

Just a few of what I use...

In addition to the above good references,,,

When I was doing HVAC work in hospitals, I ended up needing to know a bit about cooling towers, ductwork and balancing, laboratory practices including lab hoods, basic electrical primarily regarding motors (locked rotor and running amps, etc, to back-calculate compressor tonnages), fire and smoke damper practice, etc. Lots of very good references are written by the suppliers and are free, look and see what other mechanical engineers and designers have on their book shelves.

If doing commercial or institutional work, there's a good reference called "Industrial Ventilation" by the American Conference of Governmental Hygienists.

All four ASHRAE Handbooks (Fundamentals, Refrigeration, Systems, Applications)

Spirax Sarco "Steam Utilization" and "Hookups"

B&G "Engineering & Design Manual"

Industrial Ventilation Handbook

Trane Air Conditioning Manual

BAC "Product Application Handbook"
