Hydraulic Fittings 2

Hello all, I'm a relatively new engineer out of school and recently we ran into a problem with a hydraulic fitting. The male end is set in a bored hole in the machine so that the end of the fitting is flush with the outside surface of the machine. When the female end is connected to provide the hydraulic fluid, the pull release in also set into the machine and is really hard to get at. Boring out a bigger hole is not possible. What I was wondering is if the it is possible to buy a pull release fitting that is longer. The one we have right now is probably about 1/2 inch so if we could get one that is at least an inch long so that it is sticking out past the surface of the machine and easy to pull then that would be great! If anyone knows the answer and even better where to get one that would also be great!!!

Can you add an extension to your existing pull release fitting? With the small forces involved you could probably use a good industrial adhesive.

Quick release hydraulic fittings are pretty much standardized. You could have a custom one made but the price and availability will be a problem. Why don't you extend the male portion of the coupling beyond the machine?

maybe use a nipple or extension to move the whole fitting outboard of the machine. You should be able to pick up off the shelf items to do this.

The reason the male end is sunk into the machine is so that it does not get snapped off so we cannot extend it outward.

You've designed yourself into a box by not having sufficient clearance around the nipple. Your customers will want to use standard quick disconnects for service reasons and if this is a power tool takeoff the customer will have many tools on hand which use standard fittings.

Move the nipple outboard and add a protector around the nipple.
