Hello everyone! My name is Gabriel and I got here in search of better guidance in the reconditioning of an old external gear pump wich I got from a friend who was going to throw it away!So please take my thread as a hobby related one, was thinking about using this pump in a solar collector for heating water! Here's some photos done this morning in a hurry!Years ago the gears have been galvanized electrolitycally since this is what I'm doing for a living [shadeshappy] for conservation purposes(they got dumped in the attic for a few years).
The case and the cap were given a try but since they're cast iron/high in carbon content it didn't stick much zinc on them!
I was thinking of just salvaging the gears and machining another case with bearings not bushings on the ends and some better seals for God's sake not as you can see in the photos, were there aren't any...
Can't think of what could be pumped through this pump and not leak...
But anyway! I honestly think and hope some of you more experienced and "on this job" related guys can help me do something with this old thing!
Thank you kindly!
Gabriel.

Paint it nice, and use it as a desk ornament.

Buy a hydronic circulator pump for your solar system.
