I’m looking to do calcs on the moment capacity of a pipe clamp that is supporting a small satellite dish. Is there a way to convert installation torque to moment strength of a clamping system?

Yes. You take a mock up to a testing lab and break it, measuring the moment. Then with many tests and differing torque, see if there is a correlation. I suspect not. On site apply a moment equal to a hurricane event and if it holds, go with it.

Check with the manufacturer for test information. I would say if there is no information then you might want to switch products to something that is applicable your situation. Also if you create a couple using two clamps then you can use the tensile strength of the clamp and the lever arm to get a moment capacity. Apply generous factor of safety either way.

A pipe clamp would generally not carry any moment....just tension from the clamp. Why is there a concern for moment capacity in your application?

If the pipe clamp is loaded eccentrically, there will be a moment. Just depends on the type of load and the clamp arrangement.

Seems to me the capacity depends on the clamping force and rhe coefficient of friction. Perhaps even shear friction if there is enough bite in the clamp.
