While we don't have thread about this incident, which kind of surprised me, here's an item about the effort to reopen the highway after the fire that caused it to be closed in the first place:

That's impressive.

I'm sure it was costly though - machines and people like that have a backlog, and it costs even more to push their backlog off schedule.

Reminds me of a story about a former colleague, who was called in to sew a fabric sun shield that was urgently needed on the Skylab. She had a huge room and dozens of people surrounding her sewing machine, all moving the partially sewn shield around on her commands as she stitched. The USG even used a fighter jet to transport a bolt of fabric from the PNW region to Texas where the sewing was being done. It got done within the launch window, but I shudder to think about the cost.
