Insulated Panels

Anyone know of shear strength tables for a insulated panel with metal on each side? Think of a freezer and the metal used on each side of the insulation.

I guess the question is, where would you have a situation where that governs over bending capacity of the panel? I feel there's a reason that the panel suppliers just give span charts that appear to be governed by bending/deflection only.

Is this a doorway where it is being armored? Unless you know the gauge of the material being used, most neglect this. The cost of this detail has continued to increase over the years, so most will have a plate bent for this. It is not always thick material. At one time channels were used, but I doubt many do anymore. Nevermind.

Im looking to use a metal clad panel for shear wall. Interior pressure only, these are built inside of another building.
Manufactures so far I have looked at dont publish this.

Ahh, this is something totally different than I was thinking. You mean something like below. I have never used anything like that, but it seems the first thing is to find someone that actually builds them. I have seem them in PVC for freezers, but I doubt the characters I have worked with test them.

in-plane shear? Yeah I can't imagine that's a regular tested assembly. These panels are installed mostly on steel braced framed and moment frame buildings. You'd be venturing into a new territory with this application.

I'm not sure you will find it for sandwich panels as I doubt anyone has tested or intended for use as you describe. You could try using a system like ThermaSteel [URL unfurl="true"]https://thermasteelinc.com/[/url].

I may have stumbled upon something useful: AWIPanels - Under Roof decks they have diaphragm shear load tables. Another manufacturer that may have something: metlspan

JStructsteel, I know what type of panels you are talking about. I just encountered them in a site built walk in freezer during a fire investigation. If the manufacturers don't have shear panel data, I would assume it is like jayrod12 says... a steel frame is expected to provide the lateral force resisting system.

I recommend looking into SIPS (Structural Insulated Panels). Predominately wood-sheathed panels, but I think there are plenty with metal skins as well. I am not sure if the metal panel portion is commonly used as a finish material directly, but SIPS are used and testedused as shear panels and diaphragm panels. I would think you would have the most luck getting actual values out of this industry.

If they are doing work in California, the manufacturers likely have this testing. Kolpak does.

Cool reference for AWIP Onedeck...Though I see it requieres fastener every 8" which would be very hard sell on any project.
I guess some cross bracing would be much cheaper and less hassle than so many fasteners
