Hi folks!

I'm looking for a rule of thumb to follow regarding sizing of network capacity. What I need to determine is how large of a pipe to provision for an as-yet unbuilt network given a known number of subscribers?

I'd like to know approximately how many simultaneous subscribers can fit on N kbps of pipe. Also, how many potential users can have access to the network?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Well, based on my experienced, we consider first on the no of clients. Then, initially, we will have a ratio of 1:10 per client access, w/c means one line for every 10 clients. And per line, we assume a 4Kbits per line. Then observed the taffic data. And if 1:10 is not enough, we go 1:8 and so forth. Hope this would give you an idea. Good luck.

Gabbyrl,

That's what I needed for now, just a rule of thumb to get started. But if you or anyone else comes across any more exact methods or formulas, let me know.

Thanks!
