Hello everyone,

I'm trying to model a screw connection assembly that comprises of a thin steel sheet confined between two thicker steel sheets and connected with self-tapping screws, a picture of the screw assembly test can be found here: According to the literature, this type of connection can be modelled by using two connector elements in series and assigning elastic/plastic behavior, a schematic diagram can be found here: where the bottom connector is assigned a slide-plane + align properties and the top connector is assigned the slide-plane property. The bottom connector is restricted to move only in the negative X-direction by assigning an upper limit of 0 to the stop property and the top connector is restricted to move only in the positive X-direction by assigning a lower limit of 0 to the stop property.

I have tried to run a test model in explicit by connecting two connector elements in series to two fixed plates with a reference point in the middle, however for some reason I keep getting the following error when I try to assign an upper limit of 0 to the bottom connector and a lower limit of -0.5 mm:

"Error in job Test_Force_CNC: *CONNECTOR STOP options have been defined such that the initial configuration grossly violates the CONNECTOR STOP limits. This can result in large forces being applied at the connector nodes. Please check the *CONNECTOR STOP definitions for connector with nodes listed in node set ErrNodeConnStopViolation."

I have tried to fix this error by changing the properties, double checking the orientation and assigning rigid connectors, nothing seems to work so far.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Cheers,

Do you know that those limits for connector stop are defined in terms of connector length, not its displacement ?

Yea I'm aware of that, I got it to work by setting a small value for the upper bound (0.001) instead of 0.
