Hi everybody,

I'm in doubt with sketchs (f-1) and (f-2) from ASME VIII div. 1 - Mandatory appendix 9-5 (DESIGN OF CLOSURE MEMBER OF
JACKET TO VESSEL).
According to paragraph 9-5(c)(5) and sketches (f-1) and (f-2) the "Z" dimension, related to inner and outer fillet weld legs at the closure, shall be the "minimum fillet size necessary when used in conjunction with a groove weld or another fillet weld to maintain the minimum required Y dimension".
In these sketches, "Z" dimensions suggest that the inner and outer fillet legs should be equal (should have the same dimensions).
On the other hand, in the skecth (f-1) we could assume that, once dimension "a" need not to be equal to dimension "b", dimension "Z" assumes different values according to the configuration i select for "a" and "b".
I'm designing a 25 mm closure, welded in a 25 mm shell according to sketch (f-1). Am i wrong if a specify a 12 mm inner and a 25 mm outer fillet weld leg for this closure?

Thank in advance!
