Kickers around vertical columns and RC walls

Hi, referring to the attached picture, are kickers like these supposed to be cast together with the slab monolithically? Or it must be done under 2 castings?

Is preventing cement grout leakage one of the major reason we use kickers while casting columns/walls besides having proper alignment?

I have never used column 'kickers', but can see their usefulness. Yes, they would help in preventing honeycombing and assist in form alignment. I doubt good alignment would be achieved in most cases if you cast them monolithically with the slab.
