Large Influent Pumps 1

Hello,

I am looking into replacement of the pumps in a raw sewage pump station with new, larger ~500HP units (that will hopefully fit into the existing dry well). So far, the ones that seem to be the best 'fit', literally, are made by a firm I've never heard of, "ABS." I have nothing against them at all, but I'm a little leery of specifying such large units with a firm unknown to me. Looking at their website, however, they seem to be a large Germany-based firm which has handled projects all over Europe and elsewhere.

My question is, has anyone out there used their pumps before, especially their larger ones? How are they to work with, and did they perform well for you?

I have put many ABS pumps in sewage treatment plants in Australia. I have been to the factory in Germany but not Sweden or Ireland. I have witness tested pumps of 175kw at the factory.

The pumps were selected over ITT Flygt because they are more efficient and handle solids better.

Prospect Water treatment plant in Sydney (4300 m3/hr) uses ABS pumps for all duties. This is the largest plant in the southern hemishpere and supplies 60% of Sydney's water.

I've been installing ABS pumps since 1972 in UK, Libya, Australia, USA, United Emeriates, Singapore, Ireland, Germany, France & Holland.
They are probably the biggest competitor to Flygt in Europe, vast range from small sump pumps, macerators, sewage, high flow low heads axial impellers, mixers, site drainage, end suct ( not submersible ) they are Swedish owned now, but were before a family business owned by Albert Blum.
Good pumps, largest i've installed is 200 Kwatt, but in your case not many of the major manufactures will have built that many 500 HP, so look around, ask if they have built any & to who & where, then cantact the operator & see what they have to say. Any manufacturer should be only to pleased to pass on this info, if it helps get them the order.

ABS is certainly one of the more relatively common pump manufacturers in the US. They compete directly with Fairbanks Morse, A-C, Flowserve, and Patterson (in the smaller patterson ranges). I suggest asking for references in your area...that should demonstrate the level of their local capabilities and resources.

KSB, ABS and Flygt are all good pumps. If you need good info go to their respective websites. I know Flygt has offices in Wi. and Ct. not sure about the others.
