Large steel canopy support

Another thread about steel connections I made but I have just started in this field so I hope for some help/insight again.

I have pretty large steel canopy (for cars). All connections between beams and columns are bolted. Primary beams are 6 m long. Support reaction in the end of a primary beam is 30 kN.

Because of that I want to anchor primary beam to existing concrete wall (existing building) with anchors that are ONLY in shear because even small eccentricity of reaction means pretty large moment and tension in ancors (in case of angle/corbel support).

I will weld a steel plate (20 mm thick) at the end of primary beam and bolt it the way its shown in the image bellow. Do you guys see any disadvanteges here. It might be little uneasy to install it but I think its the best way. If I support beam with a steel angle it will be pretty large and unaesthetically.

As you have this drawn here, the anchors are NOT in shear only. This is pretty close to a fixed connection detail. If you want more shear and less bending of the plate (with tension loads on the top anchors), then use a stem tee, with the stem outstanding, and bolted through the beam webs.

The connection attracts a fair amount of moment. If you can modify it to a 'seated connection' or eliminate the top row of fasteners you will diminish the moment induced.

For a small structure like this, I wouldn't worry too much about the prying/moment. But I do agree that fewer fasteners would be better.

How do you intend to install the bolts? Preinstalled or through the end plate? Think about erection. If the bolts are there first, fitup will likely be a problem. And if drillng through the plate, your drill might not be able to get close enough to the beam.

One other practical consideration...I would make the spacing more than 2500, maybe 2700. May save wear and tear on both the structure and the vehicles.

 
2500 may be a bit short... 2700 is better and the overall span of 6m is a little tight for drive isle and parking... unless the vehicles are not often moved...

I think this is just a cover for two vehicles, and you drive in from the side with the columns.
