Hi,

Can anyone help me?

I'm fairly new to NX, working on NX4. I am working in context on an assembly (we'll call it "assm"). I've created a part (we'll call it "part1") within the assembly and made it the work part, with layer 1 as the work layer. "assm" is still the displayed part.

When I create sketches, datums and features etc. in "part1", they all show up on layer 1, as they should.

When I move them to other layers using the move to layer command, they are moved to the other layers. By clicking MB3->Information on the feature/sketch/datum I can see that they are on the correct layers. However, they still show up in the part navigator as being in layer 1.

This makes it very difficult to tell which layer the feature\datum\sketch is on. I have to click MB3->Information every time.

When I make "part 1" the displayed part, I can move items to layers and the correct layer shows up in the part navigator.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so did you find a solution? I'm very confused so any info would be very helpful.

Many thanks,

Tom

When moving the sketch to another layer, I used:
Format -> move to Layer -> type (button) -> highlight only "sketch" -> pick the sketch in the tree -> OK

I think this is the way that I did it in NX4, its been a while for me since I was in that version.

The case is that Layers is a "display attribute thing" and therefore always takes place in the displayed part. I.e you are not moving the sketch in the work part which one would have expected.
There is a fix ( an option) in a later NX version to this. ( might be NX7.5) "Apply changes to owning part".
Make the part that contains the sketch the Displayed part before moving and everything should work as expected.
( Unless you have your component "merged" into a single layer in the assembly. RMB on the component in the ANT - Properties - Assembly tab - Layer Option must be Original layers ,else all data gets "merged" into a single layer in the assy.)

Tomas

Thanks Jerry and Toost,

Your replies have been very helpful!

Yeah it looks like I'll have to carry on moving objects in a part to layers by making it the displayed part then. (at least until our company upgrades to a newer version that is.)

Many thanks,

Tom
