Hi All

Just chasing some advice on when a lintel over an opening no longer can be considered a lintel (which typically is restrained laterally by the roof trusses) and has to be designed as a wind beam.

For example you might have a lintel directly over a 2100mm high opening with a 2700mm high pitching point for the trusses. AS1684 seems to nominate a 650mm dimension for this which seems to indicate the lintel methodology still applies but that seems too far a distance from the lateral support point of the trusses at which point biaxial bending for both the roof load and the lateral wind load would have to be considered.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers
