That is really a question for the relevant battery OEM, particularly for Lithium Ion batteries.

I am aware of some manufacturer specific products that have adversely affected lifetime if left fully charged for a significant period, other products from the same OEM do not have this issue.

LiIon for maximum life should operate between 20% and 90%.

The reality is that most laptops don't care really. I've had mine 'charging' for about 11 years. Unplugging it only when taking it out. The battery pack has loat about 2/3rds of its capacity in that time. I'm quite pleased with that. Still runs about an 1.5 hours on a charge.

Its strongly recomended not to discharge fully LiOH or Li-ion cells. Usually controllers for such batteries are smart enough to keep proper float charge voltage, so it is no reason to keep your device discharging, just for preventing overcharging.
Full discharge will decrease your battery capacity, same like long charge actually. But if overcharging controlled by charger controller, discharging is a non controlled process, and best way to prevent degradation of battery - setup Your device to switch off, once battery capacity below 25%.
