Hi All

For houses located on busy roads, would it be feasible to locate a remote air inlet in the backyard which pulls cleaner air into the house due to the inlet being a larger distance from the road than the house?

I did a google search and didn’t find anything similar.

Thanks

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.
Obviously the practicality depends on the location of equipment.

Thanks EnergyP.

If someone has done this or knows of any existing systems available, then please let me know!

Just curious.....I assume this is a residence with operable windows. Do you need to duct in outside air?

Per ASHRAE 62.1 you only need 5 foot separation for low volume and 20 for high volume roads. There is not rule saying you can not move the OA point.
Depending on how you size the duct you may or might not need a fan, The residential units, you are probably using will only be able to get around 0.2 to 0.5 static
Can you have a roof penetration,

Technically yes, the further your air intake is from the source of exhaust, the somewhat cleaner it would be. A few things to think about before you go to all the trouble.

Are you fairly certain that your backyard has noticeably cleaner air? Have you spend long periods of time back there during heavy traffic to be sure of this?

Is the house construction tight enough that all the road smell won’t be getting into the house through wall cracks and window openings anyway?

However fair into your backyard you end up going, how do you plan on getting this ductwork all the way back and into your house. How will that be built, work, hold up, look, etc.

Not what you're asking, but why don't you just install an inlet filter and change it monthly? Seems like even a MERV 8 near the road would bring in cleaner air than no filter from yard air.
