What is the difference (if any) between a Load Indicating Washer (LIW) and a Direct Tension Indicating Washer (DTI)? To me, LIWs are a general term where DTIs are a specific type of LIW. Am I correct about this? I am just looking to gain a general understanding of this topic, so any/all input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think they are basically the same thing, at least have the same purpose. There are a few variations on the theme of a washer which allows easy inspection of bolts for tightness, and I think different manufacturers call their washers by different names.

I've scanned through some AISC sites and I don't see where they differentiate between the two. Rose by any other name....
