hello UG users and "teachers".

when doing a datum plane with the type "plane on curve", the location has to be given in mm (or inch). As I often want to place it at mid length, being able to enter a percentage would be of great help as I wouldn't have to save the arc length measurement and use the expression for placing my datum plane.

any ideas?

thanks and good day.

David

TCMartist,

I just had one of my users ask this very same question...

What you do is place your cursor over the point on the curve and click the right mouse button. From there you will see only one option and it is "% along curve" or something to that effect.

Hope that this helps.

Along this vein, I have a question for John Baker:
Is there a way to change the default behavior to be percentage of arc instead of arc length?

Thanks!

Chris,

thanks for your answer.

first I apologise, I didn't state I'm using NX4 on windows XP.

Maybe you're using a different version of NX, but when i do as you say, right-clicking on the curve, I have the contextual menu appearing, and the only thing I can do is "select from list", and from there I get back to the datum dialog box where i have to specify a length, not a percentage :-(

I think I remember that your method worked on previous NX versions, but I'm not sure.

maybe John Baker knows about that matter...

best regards.

David

Chris,

No, there is no way to change the default for this or other functions that provide the option of using an explicit value versus a percentage (parameter). Since these are not dialog options or toggles where we have something to remember that would be obvious, it was decided to just offer the option as it is, and since it can be edited later, it was not felt that this was going to be a significant burden on anyone.
