Long distance RS link modem

I'm looking for a RS232/485 serial link modems with minimum 9600 bps data transfer rate for a distance of about 6 km, using copper wire. Anybody, can help me ?

Can you go to fibre? 6km is _long_ for an RS485 link. What infrastructure do you have in place?

Have you considered going wireless, we have used a couple of wireless modems that can go up to 15 miles. Cost is about 1000.00-1200.00 per unit (2) required.

Thanks for your reply, we have only copper wires for this purpose. We consider also a wireless solution for back-up.
Do you know the manufacturer name for wireless modem ?

Consider using a pair of conventional modems. It should be possible to effectively create your own single-circuit telephone system between the two points over the copper line. Can anyone offer any comment on how easy this would be to do?

You may be able too accomplish what your looking for by using two U.S. Robotics (3com) Courier v.everything modems. These modems are fully programmable and work with dialup - or - in your case 2-wire lease line. While yours isn't a lease line, it essetially can be a "dry pair" as the phone company call it.

Or, using regular old modems and a telco line simulator, should work as well.

You may also check line drivers in the good old Black Box catalog as well.
