Hello

I need to design a small atmospheric vessel with the characteristic below

Diameter 400 mm
length 680
The rang of internal pressure : [ - 50 mbar , 100 mbar ]
external pressure : atmospheric

When i apply the ASME Viii div 1 rules i find too small value of the thickness
There is another code applicable for this vessel type?

I would just use a piece of pipe. ASME VIII doesn't apply under 15psig. These values are very small and practical issues will predominate at that size and pressure.

Remember - More details = better answers

For a vessel of this type I often see customers asking for the vessel to be designed and fabricated per ASME VIII-1 but without stamping and without AI involvement. In that way the quality of the vessel should be as good as an ASME vessel, but it doesn't require the additional cost of AI involvement.

And as LittleInch mentioned, the reality of fabrication will start to dictate at the thinner sizes. Handling a pieces of flimsy gauge steel can be a real pain, so we would normally just oversize slightly to a standard pipe size or plate thickness.

Cheers,
Marty

I think my problem is the small dimensions of the vessel because the vacuum effect is more dangerous in the wide vessel . Diametre (the larger the less stable) , lenght (the longer the less stable ). i need a small one because i ll use it in test brench for breather valves.
